Senior Researcher, PhD., The Danish Institute for Human Rights
During the last two decades my research has focused on two different fields: 1) prison history, ideologies of punishment, and human rights approaches to imprisonment; 2) the history of the Waffen SS and the Nazi war of extermination at the Eastern front. Some of the focal areas within the first field has been the history of imprisonment, the relationship between prison and society, the use and effects of solitary confinement in prisons, punishment and technology, and the problems and rights of children of imprisoned parents. Some of the focal areas within the second field has been war crimes, ideological indoctrination, and the system of punishment in the Waffen-SS.
